Community Event Guidelines and Expectations
The volunteers who maintain the Eastlake Hall of Silo’s Message are excited to open the space up to the broader community, and have put together the following guidelines for event hosts to ensure that the space will be used in a safe and respectful manner for the benefit of everyone for years to come.
Alignment
- Events must be loosely aligned with the values of our community
- Examples of events not allowed in our volunteer-run space include those promoting violence in any form. The Eastlake Hall is also not a space for heavy intoxicants.
- Examples of events we welcome are those which build community resources, nurture self-expression, and promote neighborhood solidarity!
Host Responsibilities
- A seasoned volunteer from our core nucleus must be present at the event to help the host utilize the space and ensure the hall is being treated in a respectful manner.
- It should be clear to your event participants that the event is not hosted by the Silo’s Message community, but is simply utilizing our space.
The Space
- Feel free to use our tea and coffee area, water kettle, microwave, etc. Be aware that using too many appliances at once can trip a breaker – if this happens, the breaker box is located above the bathroom sink.
- Feel free to move any tables / chairs in the hall to set up the space how you want.
- We have a restroom with a toilet and small sink available for use. The restroom sink is the only facility available for dishwashing.
- PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES and leave the space better than you found it! 😊
- Please be respectful of the materials in the hall. We pay for all the books, office supplies, etc. in the space and we would like them to stay there so we can continue using them. Please remember that these are our personal materials – we are not funded by any big organization!
Closing Up
- When closing up the space, please follow this checklist:
- Put away / stack chairs
- Sweep the floor (and mop if necessary)
- Take trash out (key on wall next to bookshelf, trash cans are behind gate on 5th Ave)
- Fill water filter
- Wash all dishes
- Clean all tables / surfaces, making sure to remove any crumbs
- Put away all food (ants have been a problem in the past)
- Bring everything inside
- Close the curtains
- Turn off all lights except LED light string on front window
Fees
- A $50 per day flat fee is charged to use the space for events
- For small gatherings (less than 10 people), the fee may be reduced on a case-by-case basis
Takeaway
Our space has been all volunteer run and maintained since 2018. We don’t have any large organization funding us – we pay rent through donations from individuals in our community who participate in our gatherings and wish to support us. Please make an effort to be respectful of our space and leave it better than you found it.
We look forward to having you!
